Tangerine by Edward Bloor
Twelve-year-old Paul, who lives in the shadow of his football hero brother Erik, fights for the right to play soccer despite his near blindness and slowly begins to remember the incident that damaged his eyesight.
My book was Tangerine by Edward Bloor. In this book Paul is the main charecter and in the begging he moves from Houston, Texas to Tangerine, Florida. He goes to a school Lake Winsdor Downs and he tries out to be on the middle school soccer team because he is a good soccer goalie. He is really good in tryouts and the coach calls him up to talk to him and then the coach says he cant be on the team because his impared vision. So Paul starts to cry brcause he wanted to be on the team and he doesn’t know how they found out about his impared vision but then his mom tells him that she filled out an IEP form. Next his brother Erick is practicing on his football team and a kid dies from getting hit by lightning. Later there a sinkhole under his school so some of the kids transfer to Tangerine Middle School. There Paul does get on the soccer team and his team wins the championship. Erick Paul’s brother had his friend hit Luis with a blackjack and later died (6 days after.) Paul gets in trouble when he jumped on a teacher and then he gets sent to St. Anthony Private School.
I think this book had it’s ups and downs. I thinkthat it showed how middle schoolers lifes are hard and different. It really makes me understand the book becuase I know what all these kids are going through in middle school. I give this bok on a scale from 1-10 an 8.

Tangerine by Edward Bloor is about a boy named Paul. He is visually impaired. He is a good soccer player but, at all his games he has to wear sport goggles. One day at school while Paul and his friend Joey are walking back from the office they see all the portables walls fall open. The kids come running out but some others are getting pulled into the ground with the portables. Joey and Paul do everything they can to help the kids and lucky for them, everyone gets saved. It was a sinkhole. So, the next day Paul transfers to Tangerine Middle School. There, he plays on the soccer team and everyone calls him Mars because of his glasses. Their team is very good and Paul makes some new friends. 2 people die in this book. Mike Costello dies because he gets struck by lightning and Luis Cruz gets killed because he gets hit in the temple with a blackjack. The sad thing is Paul’s brother Erik hired a guy to hit Luis with a blackjack. Paul and some friends are assigned a science project. Theresa is one of them and her brother Luis is growing his own tangerines and he will make a lot of money for them. That’s what they do their science project on. Paul and his friends/family go through a lot in the end. Some exciting and some not so exciting. Paul also discovers what really happened to his eyes.
Tangerine isn’t my favorite book, but it was a good one. I think anyone who has a sibling should read Tangerine and also anyone who has glasses. Tangerine is exciting, funny, and sometimes, sad.
I read the book Tangerine. Its a book about a boy named Paul. He has a mom, a dad and a older brother Eric. They had a home in Houston and they are moving to Tangerine, Florida. Paul is going to attend a school, Lake Windsor. When they first move in, they think there is a fire in the home. It turns out to be coals burning under the ground. He joins the soccer team at Lake Windsor. Eric joins the football team and is the placekicker. At one of the first football practices, Mike Costello gets struck by lightning and dies. Mike Costello’s younger brother Joey is Paul’s friend. They are going to plant a tree to remember him. During a normal school day for Paul at Lake Windsor, there is a sinkhole that destroys part of the school. Mostly everybody is okay but some people had minor injuries. The school is forced to evacuate and there is a choice. Go to Tangerine middle or use the Lake Windsor emergency backup plan. He chooses to go to Tangerine. At Tangerine, he joins the team as goalie. Eric and his friend Arthur get mad at Luis Cruz. They want to fight him. What will happen to Luis, will Paul and his team win the championships. Read the book to find out.
I would rate this book 9/10 for its detail, conflict and how it is resolved. I think that they should write a sequel. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read.
This book is about a boy who likes to play soccer and has a mysterious eye injury. His name is Paul and he had to move from Houston, Texas to Tangerine, Florida and he had to apply for a new school, Lake Windsor Downs. Paul was assigned a person to show him around the school for his first day. After his classes, he tried out for their soccer team, he was a great goalie, and he met people and made a new friend, Joey. He met Joey’s brother, Mike, he was on the football team. And a few days into the school year, he got struck by lightning and died. Paul became the goalie in soccer, but when he signed in for the school, his mom signed a sheet that showed that Paul had eye issues and stated that he was legally blind, so when the coach got it, he was not allowed to play on the soccer team. And after a few weeks, the school becomes a sinkhole and swallows up a huge area so all kids in that school had to go to a different school. He ended up going to Tangerine Middle and Joey went to the Lake Windsor Downs High. When Paul signed in and gave his paper work to the Principle, the sheet stating that he was blind was gone. He tried out for their soccer team after his classes and he became backup goalie. He met Tino, Victor, Theresa and Maya. Then he met a man named Luis who picked them up after practice. One day, Luis said that Paul could go to his tree farm where he grew a new type of tangerine, The Golden Dawn. Some of the houses had to be fumigated because termites came out from the ground, and those houses were also being robbed. Days later, mosquitoes infested the area and Luis hooked up a machine to his truck and drove around the area and killed the mosquitoes. A few days later, Luis went to Erik’s school, Lake Windsor Downs High, and confronted him. Erik told his friend, Arthur, to hit him in the head and Paul saw the whole thing. Arthur hit Luis in the head with a blackjack. Six days later, he died. Then at Mike’s ceremony, Victor and Tino snuck behind the announcer and attacked Erik and Arthur for what they did to Luis. Some of the people that were announced grabbed Victor, but he broke free and ran away. And the coach grabbed Tino, but Paul fainted and fell on the coach and Tino broke away and ran. What will happen to Paul? Will he ever find out what happened to make him lose his peripheral vision? Will they catch Tino and Victor? Who was robbing those homes? Will Erik and Arthur get caught for what they did? You have to read this book to find out.
I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because it is full of surprises and drama. This is one of the best books I have ever read and I think you should read it because you might really like this book.
The book Tangerine is about a boy named Paul. He and his family are moving to Florida from Texas. The place they are moving to used to be tangerine fields but is now houses and roads. Paul has a brother Eric, who plays football and is quite good at it also. Paul is different he plays soccer and is quite good also. Paul has very thick glasses and he does not exactly remember how he got them because he just suddenly needed them. His brother told him that he stared into a solar eclipse and this was the result. After they hot him registered and moved in Paul has his first day of school and he saw that the school that was for the 7th and 8th graders are portable trailers. Paul is mad because when he enrolled, his mom filed out a handicapped form, but Paul can see just fine. So when he started this person comes that is supposed to help him around but he tells her that he does not need her and that he can find his classes fine, and she believes him so she goes away. Because paul loves soccer so much he tried out for the soccer team as the goalie, and when he thinks that he is going to get on the team he gets kicked off the team instead. Because his mom filled out a handicapped form they can’t let him on the team because his insurance rate would be to much. A day or so later Eric, Pauls brother comes and said that Pauls possibly best friends brother has just been struck by lighting. Paul feels so bad because he saw the person a few days earlier but instead Eric laughs at him making fun of him. After a few day of normalness at school they hear a huge crack, then they go outside and to there surprise they were in a sink hole!!!!!! They started to run but Paul saw that there was people that were stuck that needed to be helped out of the giant hole surrounding them. Paul had a choice he could go help them or keep running, he went to help. After, they gave the students a choice, go to Tangerine middle or go to the high school next to his school (or where it used to be) . He chose to to tangerine middle because he could be on the soccer team. He made the soccer team but he was a sub. Back at his home his mom told him that there was people stealing from the houses a few blocks down, that are being sprayed for termites. But Paul didn’t care he was too exited for the first game. Pauls team won the whole championship but Paul was playing all kinds of different positions other than goalie. Paul had to go to a meeting with his mom that was about Eric's grades. Paul went under the bleachers and saw Eric. Eric was out side finishing up practice when Luis came. Luis had his younger siblings Beat up by Eric and now he is mad. When he confronted Eric Eric constructed his goon to hit Lis on the head. Later the cold came and Paul went to Luis’s tangerine nursery to help Luis and it was not easy, they had to work in the cold and during the middle of the night. A few days later Luis was dead, and paul found out it was the hit from the black jack. Paul and his family went to Erics grad and when they were lined up Paul noticed Luis’s little bro and also one of the boys from the soccer team. They ran up to Eric and his goon and BEAT THEM UP. The football players started grabbing them but Lis’s little bro got away but the other was caught by the coach. So Paul jmped from the riser on to the coach and the person got away but Paul is grabed and pushed in a chair. Paul sees an exit and ran home. his parents got home and paul yelled at them Because he remembered Eric spraying paint in his eyes. And that that was why he needed glasses and he also told his parents everything bad that Eric had done. Later when he went to school to get his punishment he got suspended but he felt different in a good way.
I think that this book is a 8/10 because it has a good meaning or lesson and it shows just what can happen when your a bad person.
