Stones in Water by Donna Jo Napoli

When Roberto sneaks off to see a movie in his Italian village, German soldiers raid the theater and pack them onto a train bound for a work camp. Roberto and his best friend, Samuele, vow to stick together. But Samuele has a terrible secret which, if discovered, could get them both killed.

    How did Enzo die? What will Roberto do with Enzo's boots? Will Roberto live with out Enzo? What is Samuele's dark secret? I think the book is interesting because I did not expect Enzo would die.

    Why did the German soldiers take the Italian boys? Why couldn't they take some other kids from a different place?
    Did the German soldiers take every boy in Italy?
    Why didn't they take men too?

    I'm on page 90 and I think the book is really good and it is exciting. My favorite part so far was when they were on the train and then three boys got off and tried to run away but then a German soldier shot all three boys.

    they needed workers for the work camp. That's why the Germans took the Italian boys.

    They didn't take all the boys in Italy, otherwise there would've been a lot more trains to haul them away.

    Enzo died for Roberto because he knew that without Roberto having his boots Roberto would've died and he also knew that war was apart of death. He died for Roberto.

    Because Enzo gave his boots to Roberto that's why Roberto didn't die but Enzo did.
