ReplyDeleteI would give it a 10/10 becuase it was very detailed and it had a very good ending
Cole has beaten up a kid until his head was bleeding for telling the police that he stole something so when he has the choice between jail and circle justice which is a native american way that doesn’t involve punishment he chooses that. When he gets to the island though he decides I’m going to get off this deserted island by swimming but when he fails to do that he burns down his cabin and food. Moments later he sees a Spirit bear and attacks it but is mauled and left to die on the isolated island by himself. Will Cole survive long enough for people to save him or will the bear come back to finish him? Read this book to find out the nasty truth!
ReplyDeleteI liked this book and would give it a 8/10 because it's very exiting but I think that the author could have written it in a better way.

Touching Spirit Bear is about a dangerous and angry boy named Cole. He blames others for his anger because of how his parent treats him at home, he goes out and smashes another boy named Peter’s head besides the sidewalk and prevent serious injuries. Cole has two choices of Punishment...Jail or The Circle Justice of a Native American culture punishment. He chooses the Circle Justice and was sent to a bare island in Alaska to survive for a whole year by himself. He meets two guys named Garvey and Edwin, they taught him what he needed and leaves him alone on the island. He fights a the Spirit Bear and learns to forgive and get rid of his anger in a healthy way. He learns not to blames other for his anger, then he hears that Peter tried to commit suicide because of what Cole did. He helps Peter and wants to earn trust back from others to forgive. Will he make it?
ReplyDeleteI liked it, the book gives great details of how and what Cole’s going through. It was a beginning of his journey of balancing his act and feelings of bad to good. Anyone who has family, friends and feelings problem can connect to what Cole is going through too. He has parent problem where his mom is drunk and his dad abuses him which effects him and makes him take on his anger to the outer world where he ends up hurting others. So It was a great book to read, I’m also looking forward to read the second book. “Ghost of Spirit Bear”.
Cole is a juvinile delinquent that is treated badly by both his parents and
ReplyDeletehe goes to all kinds of detention places or juvi and has to deal with drunk
parents all the time and his parents used to visit but since they got divored
they wouldn’t come together. They would sometimes come at different times
but they stopped coming because it got to hard and they stopped caring.
While he is in the detention cell he gets a visit by a guy named Garvey. He
is Cole’s lawyer. He says there is a place for kids like him that beat up
people and since he just beat up a kid named Peter and he goes to this program
as well. It is called “Circle Justice”. It is where you go to become a better person
and to learn a lesson. Once Cole accepts to do the program he is shipped off to a
place in Alaska. He goes to an island where he learns the life lesson in “Circle Justice”.
He has a house out there but since it was made by Garvey so he burns it down with the supplies that was sent with him.
He sets up a fire and a blanket so he can stay warm during the night. In the morning he wakes up and sees some seagulls eating a fish so he shoos them away with his arms and eats parts of the fish. He then sees a white bear starring at him and thinks that it is going to come after him but it doesn’t so he continues eating and looks over again but its not there. The next day he sees the bear again and goes after it with a knife but it attacks him and he lies on the ground with blood coming out of his mouth and cuts on his body and seagulls eating some of his flesh.
Read the rest of the book to find out if he makes it alive.
Touching Spirit Bear was a book about change. The main character Cole changed his personality in the book.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the book Cole robs a hard ware store, the police didn’t catch him but when he was bragging around the school someone tells and he beats up the kid who told on him. The police find out and the boy who got beat up sued Cole. They said that he can either go to jail or go to circle justice. Cole decided that he didn’t want to go to jail and that he would do anything to stay out of jail. So they say that he has to go on an island for one year, he agrees and thinks that he can get out of it, but this time he can’t.
When he gets to the island he finds the shelter and the supplies, he gets really angry at the people who tried to help him so he decides to burn all of the supplies, incuding the shelter.
The next day he decides that he wants to try and swim away from the island. He tries as hard as he can, but he loses in the end because the current is way too strong for him.
When he gets back he sees a bear, and he gets angry at the bear and doesn’t trust him because the bear isn’t afraid of him. He grabs a spear and slowly walks towards the bear the bear leaps toward him and attacks him. The bear leaves Cole on the ground bloody, and with his right arm hanging off. He has to struggle to stay alive and he realizes that his life is no more important than the little baby sparrows that are in a nest right next to him. He then decides to be nicer to the world.
Cole gets rescued from the island and after 6 months at the hospital he returns to the island. He becomes nicer and less angry at the world. Everyday Cole sits in the pond and walks up a hill to get rid of his anger. The story tells about his daily life and his struggles in the cold winter.
He survives the island and he wants Peter to come to the island to heal.
At first Peter doesn’t like Cole and stays away from him. But in the end they trust each other and they both heal, together.
My opinion on this book is that it was good and not only was it interesting, it had a message. If I were to rate this book a one out of ten it would be an eight because some parts are slow and other parts are very exciting and hold your attention.
