Mississippi Trial, 1955 by Chris Crowe
At first Hiram is excited to visit his hometown in Mississippi. But soon after he arrives, he crosses paths with Emmett Till, a black teenager from Chicago who is also visiting for the summer, and Hiram sees firsthand how the local whites mistreat blacks who refuse to "know their place." When Emmett's tortured dead body is found floating in a river, Hiram is determined to find out who could do such a thing. But what will it cost him to know? Mississippi Trial, 1955 is a gripping read, based on true events that helped spark the Civil Rights Movement.

Four Questions... Does this boy go back to see his grandpa? Dose his grandpa die? Why won't his dad let him go back? Will the mom let her boy go back to mississippi?
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading this book, I wondered... why the dad did not want him to go back to mississippi now that he is older, but then he was little and his dad let him stay for the whole summer
Im on page 43... and I think that the book is a little slow but i know it will get faster i love how it is going and i cant wait tell it gets to the big boom moment
While I was reading this book I was wondering these questions.
ReplyDeleteDid they ever find Emmett Till's Killer?
How old is Emmett and Hiram?
Why did Emmett's killers pick him to kill?
And last but not least How did Emmett's mother react to this situation?
In my opinion If I was in this situation and he was my family It would be really hard on me.
Lexie Emmet and Hiram are 16 & I think that they picked to kill him because he was one of the blacks. But to let you know he wasn't with his mother he was with his aunt in mississippi and his mom was in Chicago. I am with you it would be really hard on me to, to be treated like I am nothing would suck big time.

1. What was making R.C. do all the things that he did?
ReplyDelete2. Why was R.C. so racist?
3. Why did Hiram like fishing so much?
4. Why did R.C. torture Emmett so brutally?
To: Sophie, Imani, Gabriela
ReplyDeleteSee what had happened was that R.C was bad from the start. So I'm thinking that if your bad in the begging you might end up worse in the end. And R.C. is racist because everyone was back then nobody really would care about the so called blacks they worried about them self more. I think that the expected to have the blacks do things for them. So that they did not need to do things alone or so they did not need to work as hard or think as much.
To:Sophie,Imani, and Gabby That's really sad that they didn't find Emmett's killer.:( Hiram's father hated the word hate because he always said the world has enough hate without you adding to it. the third sentence of the first chapter Hiram liked to go fishing i think that it was very enjoyable for him and like Yana said it take a mean person to be a mean person
ReplyDeletefrom Yana and I who do ya'll think is Emmett's killer is? don! don! don!
