Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo
From the Children's Laureate of England comes a stunning novel about the First World War. Private Thomas Peaceful has lied about his age to enlist. As Thomas stands night watch, his memories are full of his childhood. But each moment brings him closer to something he cannot bear to think about.

They've gone now, and I'm alone at last. I have the whole night ahead of me, and I won't waste a single moment of it.
ReplyDeleteThomas Peaceful is one of the most important character in the story because he is following his brothers footsteps and is fighting in world war one.
The story takes place in Thomas's childhood.
This is a historical fiction book because he fought in world war one.
1. "Charlie gets the cane, and so does Jimmy Larson - six times each" (p. 20) In school when we get in trouble we don't get hit with a cane we get detention. A long time ago when kids got in trouble in school they got hit with a cane.
ReplyDelete2. Grandma Wolf because she is the reason they Peaceful family is living in the cottage. They get to live there because their grandma works with the Colonel.
3.The setting is a village during World War One. The war first started in the begining of the book.
4.It is a historical text because it happened during the war. That is historical because it was the First World War. They got hit with a cane when they got in trouble in school and that happened a long time ago. They got scarlet diese in the book and that happened along time ago.
1. I disagree because someone that ran away last night could have said that.
ReplyDelete2. "Stay close, Tommo." Charlie whispers, and then we are climbing out over the top, crawling on our bellies through the wire."
3. They are the same because the war happened in Thomas's childhood. They are different because mine is where the setting is and what was going on then and theirs is when it was.
4.He fought in world war one. That is like life today because there is people fighting in a war.
I agree with number for because if you watched the news sometimes they would talk about the people in Iraq and stuff.
ReplyDeletePart 1-Quotes:
ReplyDeleteQuote 1 “There wasn’t one man on board that ship that didn’t want to die before he ever got to France” (P. 114). This tells that it is historical fiction because They used to ride on a ship to go fight in the war but now they fly on a plane.
Quote 2 “ They were gathering their armies to fight with each other and, if they did, then we’d be in it soon because we’d have to fight on the French side against the Germans” (P 68.) This tells that it is historical fiction because the French fought the Germans in World War 1.
Part 2 Questions
I think it will end by France wining the war and Charlie and Thomas going home and getting to see Molly’s Baby.
The problem is that Charlie got shot in the foot and got to go back home until his foot is better and Thomas needs Charlie to fight in the war with him.
3. Thomas Peaceful is an important character because he is still fighting in the war even though he just went to help Charlie and Charlie has left.
I have a feeling that the book will end with Charlie and Thomas winning the war and then charlie ends up dieing, and then Thomas will go home and tell Molly and his mom the news.
ReplyDeleteAn important character would be Charlie because without him I think Thomas will be discouraged.
1. I agree because Charlie already got shot in the foot and I think that no matter what happens Thomas will tell his mom and Molly the news.
ReplyDelete2. Where is your question number 2?
3. "Who would you rather I look after, Molly, All of you at home who can perfectly well look after yourselves? Or Charlie, who's always getting himself into nasty scrapes, even at home?" (P 103) That supports the character because Thomas went to look after Charlie and he wouldn't be there if Charlie wasn't there.
"Morning here has always been to wake with the same dread in the pit of my stomach, knowing that I will have to look death in the face again, that up to now may have been someone else's death, but today it could be mine, that this might be my last sunrise, my last day on earth
ReplyDeletepage 158
I agree with the third one. It does support the character. And since Charlie is going to a hospital near home, what do you suppose Thomas would do?
1. The main problem is Charlie has to fight in the war or else his family will lose there house. When he is fighting in the war he wouldn't get to be home when is son is born. The problem is solved because he got shot in the foot and got sent home so he was home to see his son when he was born and he got to spend some time with him before he went back to fight in the war
ReplyDelete2. I was wrong because the war didn't end in the end of the book and Charlie won't get to go home after the war because he got the death penalty. Thomas will get to go home after the war and he will get to see Molly's baby.
3. I think this is a sad book. It is sad because Charlie got the death penalty because he didn't want to risk his live by leaving the trench when the Germans had there guns pointing towards them. Charlie Only got to see his son for 3 days. Charlies mom and Molly didn't know that Charlie got the death penalty until after it happened. That is three reasons this book is sad.
1. The main problem in this book probably was
ReplyDeletesargent Hanly because of the way he was treating Charlie, Thomas and all his other men.
2. I guess that my prediction was partially correct, but I didn't know that Charlie would end up dieing from that squad firing thing.
3. I thought that this book was pretty good but the ending was kinda sad but I guess that's what makes a good book. I was supprised when Hanly died and I thought that that was something good or maybe even both good and bad. I wonder what Thomas did after he said goodbye to Charlie.
