On October 26, 1914, Ernest Shackletons Endurance set sail from Buenos Aires in pursuit of the last unclaimed prize in exploration: the crossing of the Antarctic continent. The crew stood on deck to watch the city fade away. All but one.
Eighteen-year-old Perce Blackborow hid below in a locker. But the thrill of stowing away with the legendary explorer would soon turn to fear. Within months, the Endurance, trapped and crushed by ice, sank. And even Perce, the youngest member of the stranded crew, knew there was no hope of rescue. If the men were to survive in the most hostile place on earth, they would have to do it on their own.
Victoria McKernan deftly weaves the hard-to-fathom facts of this famous voyage into an epic, edge-of-your-seat survival novel.

#1 One of the quotes that I chose was "So we'll go down to the corner and crowd to the phone box to watch a moving picture." (p.98) why I thinks this shows it's historical is because they called the phone a "phone box" which is probaly what they used to call it back then. and they talked about watching a moving picture which they might have meant a movie
ReplyDelete#2 One character that is important is Ernest Shakleton who is the captain of the ship that's sailing to search the South Pole.
#3 The setting is in Buenos Aires South America but then the setting moves to the freezing cold South Pole in 1914 where people were first exploring the South Pole.
#4 This book is a historical text because it takes place in the early 1900s where people were exploring the world and finding new disoveries. And where people sailed across the ocean to find new land and that's what Shakleton and his crew are doing.
1)"get the cine camera!"page 51 which they don't even have anymore.
ReplyDelete2)Perce Blackborow he basically tells the whole story from his point of view.
3) the story took place at the dock then the rest so far has mostly been on the ice or on the boat.
4)there historical because shackleton was an old explorer who actually did this expedition a long time ago so its historical

ReplyDelete#1 I agree with what you said but I don't know if Shackleton was an actual explorer but with everything else i agree with.
ReplyDelete#2 "And if there is a stowaway he is the first to be eaten" might tell that he was the main character
#3 The settings are mostly the same because the dock was in Buenos Aires but the ocean was different because they're on the water heading towards the South Pole.
#4 The sentence you put for your setting compares to life because sailors or people you go on boats and that kind of stuff start at the dock where they get there stuff then the rest of it they're on there boats or in the water.
1) The moving picture video things do show that this is a historical fiction because now we have like video cameras and all this electronic stuff that they did'nt have in the early 1900s
ReplyDelete2)I don't have the book with me right now so I cant say what page but he is important beacause it has his name on the front cover. and the book is about the adventure of Ernest Shackleton
3)My setting was more plain but when you said your setting it was way more detailed version
4)comparison they are on a giant wooden boat and when I go on a boat it is usually a pontoon or speed boat.
#1 “No everyone is going to have a telephone in their own house.” p. 98 and mostly everyone already has one. “And someday I’ll bet there’ll be movie cameras so small everyone will have one.” p. 98 and people did make those and a lot of people have them.
ReplyDelete#2 What I think is going to happen in the end is that the someone is going to come and find the stranded people and save them before they all die. And the part that I’m on is when Shackleton is going to Georgia Island and what I think is going to happen is that they’re not going to be able to get their.
#3 I think Perce Blackborow is the most important character because he is the stowaway that sneaked into the ship to travel to Antarctica.
HF quote 1.whats worse,Billy- Stuck here or stuck in the workhouse. page(146)
ReplyDeleteI think that that shows that its historical fiction because we don’t have workhouses anymore because now we have office buildings or at least people don’t call them workhouses.
HF quote 2. Next day , most of the delicacies they had salvaged from the Endurance were laid out to eat. page(149) well the Endurance is a boat that went to Antarctica but didn’t make it through the whole event.
I predict that only a few people will survive considering that this is now a story so it must have got out some how well I guess that somebody could have made this story based on just them leaving and the whole rest is just made up but I think that Perce might survive with few others like Billy, and Crean.
I think that Perce is the most important character considering that the story is through Perce’s eyes and thoughts
#1 I agree with your quotes because I've never heard someone say "workhouses."
ReplyDelete#2 "We shall be on Elephant island tomorrow" so it tells that they might make it out alive which goes with your prediction.
#3 "Do you think the Doc will have to cut my feet off" p.182 might say that Perce was the main character.
#1 The main problem in the book I think was when the Endurance sunk in the ocean but in the end they didn't get it back so it wasn't solved.
ReplyDelete#2 my prediction was correct because some of them did make it out alive and I predicted that they would survive .
#3 I thought that this book was very interesting and exciting because to imagine of being on the coldest place on earth and to journey that far away at to not know if you'll make it back home is kinda scary but it talked about bravery because to have the guts to go on such a dangerous journey it would take a lot of courage.
1)The main problem in the book is that the whole crew gets trapped out in the middle of Antarctica that is the problem they survive out there for very long time with only penguin and seal to eat and very low supplies. this problem was solved by six or four men going on a small boat and trying to get to an island where there are people they make it and then go to Chile witch then they go to rescue all the men and they make it out fine.
ReplyDelete2)my prediction was defiantly wrong considering that every body survived except one person and the person that died I didn't think that they were even going to die so I wasn't right about any thing.
3)I thought this book was very good and that I would suggest it yo anyone who was looking for a good book to read I think that the reason I liked it so much is that I like adventure books These are basically the only books I read unless some one shows me a better book. or that they think is better
#1 "Aye, I have to say, many a time I thought we wouldn't make it" it tells that there was a solution to the problem that they got out alive.
ReplyDelete#2 A person might like this book if someone's interested in sailing or what it feels like to be a sailor on a big expedition or journey.
