Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick

Thirteen-year-old Steven has a totally normal life: he plays drums in the All-Star Jazz band, has a crush on the hottest girl in the school, and is constantly annoyed by his five-year-old brother, Jeffrey. But when Jeffrey is diagnosed with leukemia, Steven's world is turned upside down. He is forced to deal with his brother's illness and his parents' attempts to keep the family in one piece. Salted with humor and peppered with devastating realities, DRUMS, GIRLS, AND DANGEROUS PIE is a heartwarming journey through a year in the life of a family in crisis.

  1. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie is about a kid named Steven who hates his little brother, hates school and is like any other normal kid. His life is like that until his little brother, Jeffry gets cancer. Now his life is all tangled up. He worries for his brother all the time, tries his best in school even though his math grade is terrible, and plays drums. Jeffry isn’t doing so well either. Read the book to see if Jeffry will get better, and for steven, a normal life.
I think the book is good because it tells how hard it would be if you had cancer.

  2. Rules
    Cynthia Lord

    Dear Mr.Olson,

Im reading Rules by Cynthia Lord. It’s about Catherine and her brother David, Catherine has made up rules that david has to follower because he has a disbility. But Finds out that they’re getting new neighbors and there is a little girl well a girl about her age. So one as she is taking david out to go to the video she stops in her drive way to ask to moving men to ask when they will be here and she finds out the times, When they are at the video store david gets cranky so she has to take him home but they have to wait for their dad to come pick them up, they finaly get home and catherine rests. The next day Catherine, Her mom and david go to davids theropy and well they wait for the theropy to be over her mom reads to her and well she reads catherine starts drawing jason a boy that goes there to and he has a wheel chair and speaking cards because he can’t speak. As catherine is drawing jason, his mom looks up and asking is she drawing her son and why? Catherine doesn’t know what to say, so she’s silent. The next day when they go to theropy Jason tells his mom that he likes the picture that she drew of him, and so his mom asks for the picture and catherine is glad to give it to him. Catherine was very excited for tomorrow because that’s when the neighbors move in and she could finaly have a friend that lives on the same block. So the two girls finaly meet each other a couple days after they move because when ever catherine went over there to give them cookies and welcome them to the neighborhood they were gone, so one day the girl Kristie came over and they hung out and they became very good friends. I didn’t get to finish the book but i gave my blog on the parts I did have time to read.
