Peak by Roland Smith
When 14-year-old Peak Marcello is caught scaling a skyscraper to place his signature graffiti tag, he is offered a choice: spend three years in juvenile detention, or climb Mt. Everest with his long-absent father. And though the choice might be easy, the journey is not. Peak is physically and emotionally challenged by the grueling climb, the weather, and the politics and drama of climbing culture. Oh, and the pressure is on, because if Peak can reach the summit before his 15th birthday, he'll break a world record and gain glory and money. Roland Smith's Peak is gripping and surprising, and though it's written for a middle-grade audience, readers young and old will be sucked in by the sharp writing and memorable characters.

I also read Peak by Roland Smith and I liked it alot because I liked how Peak tried to get to the top but he did not because they forced him to go down because he did not have enough energy.
ReplyDeleteIn the beggining
Peak started at his house and his dad asked him if he wanted to go climb mt. Everest. Peak said that he would but his mom did not want him to go because she thought he would get hurt. He said that he would be carful and he was but he did not make it to the top because they said he could’nt because he had no breath.
In the middle
In the middle of the book Peak got to ABC and he went up to camp 5 with Sun Jo and Sun Jo said that I wanted to be the youngest one to the top and he was. He went to camp 5 and he almost fainted when he got there.
The problem is that Peak and Sun Jo both want to go to the top and Sun Jo wants to put peak back down. The climax is Peak when he went to climb mt. Everest.
My opinon is I liked this story alot because it was a good story. I thought that because I like adventure books. I think that my friend would like this book because it is a adventure and we both like adventure.

My book was Peak
ReplyDeletePeak climbs a building in New York city and gets arrested by the police and has to go to court and he has to leave New York and has to pay 150k so his dad takes custody and he takes him to a place in africa to have a physical and he later on knows that the physical was so that he can climb Mount Everest he meets up with a monk Zopa (his dads friend) and Son Jo (Zopa’s grandson) all three of them start climbing Mount Everest to meet his father at base camp they meet up with a reporter that is going to report that Peak is the youngest person on earth to be up so high and it will also help his father get out of debt they climb up to different camps and they stop at camp ABC and have a meeting and then they split up into three different groups and they climb to camp 5 and then back down to base camp.
My opinion is that the book wasn’t bad but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone because there wasn’t anything exiting and they go up the mountain and down and it got boaring

PEAK: Roland Smith
ReplyDeleteteenager Peak is in for a big surprise when he gets to the top of the 5 sky scraper in new york not only does he tag the building but he gets a free ride down and straight to the juvenile detention center where the police captain questions him about the buildings he has been tagging although this was the first time he had been caught the police captain doesn't fail to connect the dots. When peak attends his sentence his lawyer somehow comes up with a brilliant plan to get peak out of it his father takes him out of the country and all charges dropped, peak agrees not at all reluctant sense he hasn't spent any time with his father for the last decade. Peak aspects to just settle down in a small house and just hang out with his dad, but his dad has different plans they travel to the Himalayas and climb the big bad mt everest peak thinks “this will be great” and it is right up until his lungs fill with liquids they meat some people and climb the Mt. if you want to find what happens then read the book.
I would rate this book a 1/5 because it has so little detail in some parts and then just does pages of details in other parts I doubt I will vote for this book to be a Hart Lovelace because of this

Fourteen-year-old New Yorker Peak Marcello hones his climbing skills by scaling skyscrapers. After Peak is caught climbing the Woolworth Building, an angry judge gives him probation, with an understanding that Peak will leave New York and live with his famous mountaineer father in Thailand. Peak soon learns, however, that his father has other plans for him; he hopes that Peak will become the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest. Peak is whisked off to Tibet and finds himself in the complex world of an Everest base camp, where large amounts of money are at stake and climbing operations offer people an often-deadly shot at the summit. Peak does not make it because he is forced to go down because he is so exhausted. I truthfully love this book because of all the suspense and I really liked the part where he was cooking the beef strogonoff in the hotel with all his new gear.

Peak is climbing a skyscraper. There are no mountains in New York so they are his only choice. But, at the top..... BUSTED!! The police are there ready to take him to court. When he arrives at court his two younger sisters and his mom, step dad, and Josh (dad) are there. The judge said he can either go to Juvy for 3 years or live with his dad in Thailand. That was an easy choice for him. But, the journey up the great mountain is hard. 3 people died and Peak prayed he wouldn't make it 4. During his trip Peak meets some new friends Sun-jo, Zopa, Yogi, and Yash. Peak makes it high but to find out how high and if he survives you have to read the book. Will he make it to America?? Find out!!
ReplyDeleteI liked the book. It wasn't my favorite one but, it was still good. It kept me reading in some parts and the end was a great surprise. I would recommend this book to someone else. I'm glad I read "Peak by Roland Smith."

It all happens when Peak was climbing a skyscraper in New York and get caught and gets sentenced to Juvie until court. Once he gets to court he sees his family and a surprise visit by his dad which he hasn't seen in 7 years. The dad takes Peak so the story about the boy who climbed a skyscraper dies. Peak finds out his dads intentions for him to climb Everest. He makes some friends along the way such as Sunjo, Yogi, Yash and Zopa. All of those friends are climbing with him and Zopa has a secret plan. What is Zopa's plan? What will happen to Peak? That's for you to read and find out about the story of Peak.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite books. My favorite part is at the end (classified) because you really didn't expect what he did up there. I would give this book 9 out 10 because it had a good story line and I really like how they made the characters and their personalities. I would recommend this book to who is ever interested.

I liked the book also.
DeleteA fourteen year old boy is in love with climbing and so when he doesn’t have any mountains to climb in New York city he decides to start climbing sky scrapers but when he gets caught it’s horrible! He has a choice to either go to juvi or he can go to Tai land with his dad that he hasn’t seen in years.
ReplyDeleteOf course he decides to go to Tai land with his dad. When he gets there he figures out that his dad has a plan to get him up to Everest before his 15th birthday, so he can be the youngest person to go to the summit ever. When the police people start to get involved and when his leader gets sick can Peak still make it all the way up to the mountain? You’ll have to just read the book to find out if he makes it...or dies!
I really liked this book it wasn’t my favorite but it was still very interesting and it really got me hooked at some times because things just kept changing. I would recommend this book to anyone because it’s very good and the twist t the end is awesome.

The book Peak by Roland Smith is about Peak a 14 year old boy who likes climbing anything that is tall. He starts off small like climbing skyscrapers and tagging them, but when he gets caught on one of his missions it seems like it’s the end for him career in the tagging business. Days past while he was in his cell. On the day of the trail he noticed that his biological dad was there, who live in Thailand. After the trail ended Peak wan sentenced to live with his dad until he was eighteen. What he didn’t know was that his dad had planned to make him the youngest kid to summit Everest. After he was on the plane that’s when his dad dropped the bomb. When they landed his dad left to deal with something and told Peak to go to the hotel. Peak got his physical test the next day so they can determine if he can do it. After that is when he meets Sun-jo a boy his age who’s father helped Peak’s father. Together the go to meet Zopa a monk who had taught both the kid’s fathers. From there they start off toward the mountain. While going there Zopa trained them so the could get in shape for the climb. It took 10 days to get there, but they had made it. When they got there they had an unexpected visit or at least for Sun-jo and Peak. For a person to climb a mountain they have to first go up, stay there, then come back down so their bodies could get used to the altitude. So for several weeks Peak, Sun-jo, Zopa, and some others got up to camp ABC, intermediate, camp # 4, 5, and 6, went back down and continued this routine. Sadly Peak learned that Sun-jo was the grand-son of Zopa, and that Sun-jo is coming to the summit with him and whoever made it to the top would be the youngest, because Sun-jo was only days older than he was, and sadly for Sun-jo the man who visited them when they got there is watching out for a boy who is not supposed to be there, which is Sun-jo. It had been rough weeks trying to get to the top, but now they were so close to the top. Zopa had told them that they had to get there by a specific time or they had to come down. Peak, Sun-jo, and others who were coming with them knew that Zopa was always right. There was only a few steps till summiT, but which one will make it. Read to find out.

ReplyDeleteThe book I read was Peak by Roland Smith, It was about a boy ( Named Peak!) who has a love, no a passion for climbing...... Till he gets caught (Illegally) scaling a skyscraper in NYC!.... his FACE gets frozen to the skyscraper! He is sentenced to ether jail time or spend a long time with his dad A.K.A Josh in Thailand, Of course he will choose to go with Josh, little did he know he will be climbing Mt.Everest! And did i mention that if he gets to the top before he turns 15 he will be the youngest person to climb Everest IN THE WORLD! day after day he writes in his Moleskine I don’t know what that is but I know it’s some sort of a diary. He climbs with these monks named Sun-Jo Zopa! It is an OK book would not really recommend it the end is, well it is, well just read it and find out. 5/10

I read Peak by Roland Smith
ReplyDeletePeak is about a boy named Peak Marcello Who’s living with his mother and stepfather.
Peak climbed skyscrapers leaving a mountain stencil drawing of a blue mountain.
Peak was climbing his third Skyscraper when the police showed up and arrested him.
He went to Juvi he had stitches done to his ear because part of it got frozen to the skyscraper. When his mother saw him she wasn’t mad.... yet at least.
Peak went to court where his father bailed him out of court by paying the fine and peak was sentenced to go with his father.
Peak didn’t know that he would be climbing everest the highest mountain in the WORLD! When peak and his Dad arrived Peak got his climbing gear and his dad left so peak stayed in the hotel. He was trying out his stove from the gear when someone knocked on the door it was a kid named Sunjo peak was embarrassed because he was testing his gear and Sunjo saw him.
Later on in the story they arrive to Mount Everest peak knew he could die before he even reaches the summit. Peak gets put in a group with Sunjo and Zopa the monk.
They start climbing and they hear about a guy named Captain Shek who was looking for Sunjo.
Later Josh his dad tells him to leave Everest so Peak gets mad and then they go back to Everest secretly He Sunjo,Zopa,Yogi,Yash it was part of Josh’s plan. When peak is 10 feet away from the summit he lets Sunjo be the one to be the youngest person to climb Everest.
I would recommend this book to people who enjoys reading about adventures.
Peak was the kind of book you can get into in the first or second page. I liked peak because it was about climbing and things i like to do. Its about a young boy named Peak. He decided one day he was going to climb a building. When he was climbing the building in the freezing cold cops started to surround him and he got in trouble by the government but bye his mom. So he had to go to court and go live with his dad that he hasn’t seen in awhile. When he went to go live with his dad, he was very busy every day, and every night. So he had peak stay in a hotel for about a week or so. When his dad told him that there were going to climb Mt.Everest he was excited but nervous. They were at the mountain with Son-jo and Zopa, and a whole bunch of other climbers trying to summit the mountain him and son-jo and holly a porter got sick. A couple people died of HAPE. I didn’t get to finish the book but this is all i have.
