The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Welcome to the story of Despereaux Tilling, a mouse who is in love with music, stories, and a princess named Pea. It is also the story of a rat called Roscuro, who lives in the darkness and covets a world filled with light. And it is the story of Miggery Sow, a slow-witted serving girl who harbors a simple, impossible wish. These three characters are about to embark on a journey that will lead them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle, and, ultimately, into each other's lives. And what happens then? As Kate DiCamillo would say: Reader, it is your destiny to find out.

  1. The Tale of desperurax

In this book a baby mouse is born and is the last one that his mother will have because the rest have died. He was born with his eyes open and his ears were giant. When his aunt and uncle come to see him. His uncle says that it is abnormal to have your eyes open when you are born and his aunt says that he has abnormal ears and they are giant. One day he talks to the princess and he is sent to the dungeon because he disobeys the rules and they send him down with a red string around his waist and they toss him down and he can’t see and he has to find his way out. Becasue it was dark he couldn’t see but he gets out and talks to the princess and she makes it legal to eat soup and let rats live in the outside world.
